Knights Topped By New Paltz, Sweep Russell Sage

NEW PALTZ – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Volleyball team rounded out play at the New Paltz Hawks Invitational with an 11-25, 16-25, 16-25 loss to the host Hawks before rebounding for a 25-16, 28-26, 25-20 sweep of Russell Sage. Grace Riddle closed the day with 24 kills over the two matches for the Knights.

Saturday’s sweep moves Mount Saint Mary to 2-4 overall on the season.

New Paltz 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
The Hawks got off to a quick start, putting away 18 kills and hitting a blistering .586 in the opening set.

New Paltz continued its efficient offensive attack with 13 more kills in the middle stanza, hitting an efficient .346 to move in front 2-0.

New Paltz was limited to just eight kills in the final frame, but took advantage of nine Mount Saint Mary miscues to secure the sweep.

For The Knights
Riddle recorded 11 of the team’s 22 kills in the match and added eight digs and a pair of service aces.

Fran Cammarata handed out 21 assists, lifted eight digs and recorded two aces.

Erin Lema closed the contest with three kills and seven digs.

For The Hawks
Victoria Konicki led the team with eight kills and added four digs.

Dana Collins handed out 16 assists and totaled five digs.

Cate DiGiacomo recorded 14 assists and four digs.

Kayleigh Emanuelson and Mackenzie Williams led the team with three aces apiece.

Mount Saint Mary 3 – Russell Sage 0
The Knights rebounded with 35 kills against the Gators in their first sweep of the season.

The Knights used a 7-0 run to break open a 21-13 advantage in the opening frame.

Mount Saint Mary closed out the opening set with four of the final six points, including a kill from Cammarata and an ace from Krista Gross, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Mount trailed 24-20 late in the second stanza, but used a 5-0 run, highlighted by two kills from Lema and two aces from Riddle, to surge in front 25-24.

The Gators rallied to move in front 26-25 before kills from Lema and Ava DiScala and a Gator error to grab a 2-0 lead.

The Knights took an early 11-6 advantage in the third and moved in front 23-17 following a kill from Riddle.

The Gators pulled to within 23-20 before another Riddle kill and an error finished off the sweep.

For The Knights
Riddle led all players in the match with 13 kills and posted her second 20-plus dig performance with a team-high 22. Riddle added a match-high six service aces.

Lema chipped in 10 kills, nine digs and a pair of blocks.

DiScala contributed five kills and three aces.

Cammarata handed out 29 assists and added a pair of kills.

Angelyse Orellana lifted 10 digs.

Gross totaled 21 digs and an ace.

For The Gators
Celia Gagnon paced the team with 12 kills to go along with five digs.

Statia Walker handed out 19 assists.

Elaina Moisidis led all players in the match with 23 digs.

The Knights open the home and Skyline Conference schedule on Thursday against Yeshiva.
