Dwayne Hibbert: From Jamaica to Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – Dwayne Hibbert, a project designer who has gained a broad range of experience at firms in Jamaica, on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley, has joined Tinkelman Architecture as a project designer.

Hibbert began his career in Kingston, Jamaica, where is a native. His six years of experience saw him working on projects ranging from single family affordable housing to commercial and hospitality projects. When he came to the United States two years ago, he first joined a firm in Suffolk County, then another in Dutchess County. From there, he joined Tinkelman Architecture, where he is now working on high-end residential and commercial buildings, the types of projects he undertook and learned to appreciate while working in his native country.

Hibbert has honed a versatility that dovetails with Tinkelman’s mission.

“In contemporary designs, if you look closely, you can find features of the many classical architectural elements that have evolved to suit today’s structures,” he said. A resident of Poughkeepsie, Hibbert enjoys applying his design experience in a region with communities that facilitate walkability and garner a sense of place.

“What inspired me to be a part of the Tinkelman team is not only the scale and quality of projects that they are involved in, but also their way of integrating technology in design,” he continued. “With 3-dimensional drawing and virtual reality programs, a person can walk through and experience our design ideas long before the construction process.”

His architectural interest was inspired by a high school technical drawing teacher who saw, nurtured, and encouraged Hibbert’s talent. He completed his undergrad and graduate studies at the Caribbean School of Architecture, which is in his native country.

“Dwayne brings a fresh perspective to the team that is invaluable,” said TA’s Founder and Managing Member, Steven Tinkelman. “He has a wide range of experience in project types that are related to our current work and brings to our firm a thoughtful, international perspective. We are thrilled to have him on board.”
