Marist Women Drop a Conference Game

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist women’s basketball team dropped a conference matchup to the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday night. The Red Foxes were beaten by a score of 58-52.
After a back-and-fourth first quarter, Quinnipiac led 13-11. Zaria Shazer got off to a hot start, scoring the first nine points for the Red Foxes.

At halftime, Quinnipiac led 35-30 after draining four consecutive field goals to end the second quarter.

Shazer continued to pace the Red Foxes as she had 19 points heading into the break.

The Bobcats scored six unanswered points to start the second half, giving them their largest lead of the game at 41-30 with 7:52 remaining in the third.

Despite going on a 9-0 run in the quarter, Marist found themselves down 48-41 after three.

The Red Foxes cut the Bobcats lead to two after a Shazer free throw with 46 seconds left.

On the following possession Grace LaBarge converted an and-one to make it 56-51.

Marist did not make a field goal in the final 4:36 of play.

The Red Foxes have a week off before they host Saint Peter’s at McCann Arena for a MAAC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 28.
