Army Defeats Loyola and Lafayette, 3-0

WEST POINT – The Army women’s tennis team defeated Loyola and Lafayette at Lichtenberg Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights also defeated the Lafayette Leopards 4-0.

Army is now 18-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

In their first match, the Black Knights defeated the Loyola Greyhounds 4-1.
The Greyhounds secured the doubles point. Army defeated Loyola in the first position with Cooper Jackson and Maria Drobotova besting Jessica Bodewes and Emi Shickumar 6-1. In the No. 2 position, Loyola’s Lauren Manwiller and Christine Richiez defeated Julia Kelly and Janna Sabile in a 7-6. Olivia Tracey and Liza Tankimovich bested Paige Herremans and Isabella Brilliant 7-5 in the No. 3 spot.

Army began its comeback in their singles matches. Sophomore Cooper Jackson competed against Olivia Tracey in the first position. Jackson defeated Tracey in two sets (6-1, 6-2).

In the No. 2 spot, Maria Drobotova faced off against Loyola’s Lauren Manwiller. Drobotova bested Manwiller, winning both sets (6-3, 6-1). In the fourth spot, Freshman Emma Sy defeated Emi Shivkumar in two sets (6-0, 6-1). Ylan Duong competed against Loyola’s Liza Tankimovich in the No. 6 spot. Duong bested Tankimovich, winning in two sets (6-0, 6-1).
4-0.

In their match against the Leopards, the Black Knights won the doubles point. McKinnley Smith and Anna Loureiro defeated Lafayette’s Halle Denardo and Eleanore Campbell 6-0 in the second spot. In the No. 3 spot, Paige Herremans and Isabella Brilliant bested Melanie Sparhawk and Olivia Boeckman 6-1.

In the singles matches Army continued to dominate the court. Sophomore Julia Kelly competed against Carmen Merkel in the No. 1 spot. Kelly defeated Merkel in two sets (6-2, 6-3).

In the fourth position, Paige Herremans defeated Alyssa Perdomo, winning both sets, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Vennmukiil Mathivanan bested Lafayette’s Eleanore Campbell in two sets, 6-1, 6-3.
