Annual Easter Tradition Continues in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – More than 1,000 children converged on Waryas Park Saturday, near the “John Flowers Memorial Circle” to participate in the “Flowers Family Easter Egg hunt”. The late John Flowers started the event years ago, and his son Frankie and daughter Yvonne, with the help of dozens of volunteers, have continued the annual event.

Nearly 2,000 children enjoyed live entertainment, eating contests, vendors, and an interactive display provided by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office while waiting for their age group to have a turn at searching for plastic eggs filled with treats.

Flowers said more than 1,500 Easter Baskets had been distributed to children by 10:30 a.m. and he was thankful for the donors and volunteers that made the event a success. “Everybody gives a little bit and we all make big things happen,” said Frankie. “We try to involve everyone in the community.”
