County Will Host the Annual Crime Victims’ Vigil

MIDDLETOWN – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has announced that the 2023 Orange County Crime Victims’ Vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25th at Erie Way Park, located at 1-31 Union Street in Middletown.

“We are proud to partner with law enforcement officials, advocates and community members at this important event, which allows us all to show our support and compassion for crime victims and their families,” Neuhaus said. “It gives us an opportunity to honor those in our community who have been victims of crimes. I thank the Orange County Coalition for Crime Victims’ Rights for putting this important event together.”

The vigil coincides with National Crime Victims’ Week, which runs from April 23-29. This year’s theme is “Survivor Voices: Elevate. Engage. Effect Change,” and emphasizes the need to amplify the voices of survivors and create environments where they have the confidence that they will be heard.”

“This annual event is always a very moving and healing moment for crime victims and their families,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said. “We want them to know that they are not alone and that their community cares about them. My office will remain vigilant when it comes to prosecuting violent crimes in Orange County.”

The Orange County Coalition for Crime Victims’ Rights is dedicated to addressing the social, emotional, and financial needs of crime victims and their immediate families, helping them with a variety of services including filing compensation claims with the New York State Office of Victims Services. The Coalition for Crime Victims’ Rights is comprised of the Orange County Probation Department’s Crime Victims Assistance Program, Mental Health Association of Orange County-Sexual Assault Prevention and Advocacy Program, Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Orange County STOP-DWI Program, the New York State Police and Fearless! Hudson Valley, Inc.

“The Crime Victims’ Vigil is a night to remember victims of crime, and their families, and to acknowledge their journey for justice and shared hope of a better tomorrow,” Orange County Probation Director Tim Davidian said. “For law enforcement personnel and victim advocates, the Crime Victims’ Vigil is a recommitment of our continued support and dedication to all victims of crime.”
