Army Defeats Navy Then Falls to Boston U

WEST POINT – The No. 3 seeded Army West Point women’s tennis team defeated the No. 2 seeded Navy Midshipmen 4-2 in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals Saturday afternoon. Army’s Elizabeth Gilbert, Jenna Sabile, and Ylan Duong each won their singles match.

In the doubles matches, Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans competed against Navy’s Emily Tannenbaum and Samantha Johns in the No. 1 spot, defeating them 6-3. In the second position, Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile bested Casey Accola and Sia Chaudry 6-3, securing the doubles point for Army, giving them a 1-0 lead.

In the singles matches, the Midshipmen attempted their comeback. In the No. 1 spot, Navy’s Emily Tannenbaum defeated Cooper Jackson 6-2, 7-6, making it a 1-1 match.

Army retook the lead, after Jenna Sabile bested Sia Chaudry in the third position in two sets (6-3, 6-4), making it a 2-1 match. Navy continued their comeback attempt. In the No. 6 spot, Kate Lee made it a 2-2 match, after defeating Paige Herremans in three sets (5-7, 6-1, 6-2).

In the second position, senior Elizabeth Gilbert retook the lead for the Black Knights.

Gilbert came from behind, besting Stella Ribaudo in three sets (1-6, 6-2, 6-3). In the No. 5 spot, Army’s Ylan Duong secured the win for the Black Knights defeating Navy’s Samantha Johns in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).

The No. 3 seeded Army West Point women’s tennis team fell to the No. 1 seeded Boston University Terriers 4-0 in the Patriot League Tournament Championship Sunday afternoon.
