Army Completes Sweep in Throwing Events

BETHLEHEM, PA – Army West Point women’s track & field finished in third place at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, totaling 143 points on the weekend. Navy was able to claim the title with a team score of 241.5 while Boston University placed second with 150 points.

Aysia Salas (shot put) and Sophia Dykstra (discus throw) claimed first-place finishes for Army, completing a sweep for the Championship in the throwing events following wins from Kayley Ragazzini (hammer throw) and Brooke Stratman (javelin throw)on day one.

Salas collected the first win of the day for the Black Knights, with a 15.28m shot put mark to pace the field. Army came in one-two in the event, with Barbara Antwi logging a second-place finish with a 14.54m throw. Dykstra then posted a personal-best 50.87m mark in the discus throw to secure the title. Karly Parcell finished in fourth-place in the event with a 48.69m distance.

Saydee Aganus collected the lone track victory of the day for Army in the 100m hurdles, with her 13.72s mark beating out the second-place finisher by .03 seconds. The 4×400 relay team of Monica Smith, Ever Elegon, Lara Westwood-Marsh and Holli Chapman secured a third-place finish for the Black Knights, with a time of 3:47.88.

Army found two on the podium in the 3000m steeplechase, with Joanna Halfhill finishing in second-place with a time of 10:36.89. Claire Lewis followed close behind, with her 10:41.61 being good for a third-place finish in the event. Charlotte Richman was Army’s top finisher in the 5000m with a time of 17:11.49.

Zoe Eggleston completed a third-place finish in the heptathlon, after posting a second-place finish (2:23.10) in the 800m and a third-place finish in the javelin throw (28.01m) on day two. Aside from the heptathlon events, Eggleston also finished in fourth-place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.70.
