Mount Saint Mary Blue Knights Softball Powers Past Purchase

PURCHASE – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team got back into the win column in a big way on Saturday, sweeping league rival Purchase by scores of 8-0 and 11-2. Laura Dentato totaled six hits over the two victories, including the 100th safety of her career.

Saturday’s sweep evens the Mount’s overall record at 17-17 and improves its league mark to 10-6, while Purchase slips to 6-21 overall and 4-12 in conference play.

Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 8 – Purchase 0 (F/6)
After a scoreless first inning, the Mount put two runs on the board in the second and pushed its lead to 5-0 with three more tallies in the third.

After Sofia Gannon walked to open the inning, Dentato launched her first home run of the season and her 100th career hit in the second frame.

In the third inning, Rory Littman singled with one out in the inning and was chased home on a run scoring double from Samantha Bendig.

Gannon delivered Bendig with a single to make the score 4-0 ahead of an RBI single from Dentato.

Mount Saint Mary tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning when Kaeli McAnally pushed home Riley Norwood with a two-out single.

The Knights put the game away with the final two runs of the game in the sixth when Bendig clubbed a two-run home run with no one out in the inning.

For The Knights
Dentato finished the opener 2-for-4 with a home run, run scored and three RBI.

Littman continued her strong play at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort with a triple, walk and two runs scored.

Bendig went 2-for-4 with a double, first home run of the season, two runs and three RBI.

Norwood wrapped up game one 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

Bridget Morris won her ninth game of the season, working 6.0 innings. Morris surrendered just three hits in her third shutout of the season and struck out 13 Panthers.

Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 11 – Purchase 2 (F/6)
After falling behind 2-1 after two innings, Mount Saint Mary erupted for five runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to put the game away.

Olivia Ferara got the scoring started in the big fifth with a run scoring infield single and later scored on a single off the bat of Grace MacDonald.

McAnally chased home two runs with a single ahead of another run scoring base hit from Dentato to push the Mount in front 6-2.

In the sixth, the Mount got their first two runs on bases loaded walks drawn by Dylan Lane and McAnally.

Dentato followed with a two-run single before Jenna Cedeno pushed home the final run of the game for the Mount with a groundout.

For The Knights
Dentato finished off her big day 4-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI.

Gannon wrapped up game two 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Sophia Reed finished up 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

McAnally posted a hit, walked twice, scored a run and drove in three runs.

Lane finished with a hit and scored twice.

MacDonald recorded a hit, drew two walks, scored twice and drove in a run.

Bendig and Ferara each had a hit and scored a run.

MacDonald collected her eighth win of the season in the circle, allowing two runs on seven base hits. She struck out three and walked a pair of Panthers in the win.
