Brewers Cruise to Season Opening Victory

POUGHKEEPSIE – Madison Bouggess led six different players scoring a goal and adding an assist, as the Vassar College Women’s Soccer team opened the season with a convincing 4-0 non-conference home win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Friday.

Vassar wins its season opener for the fourth time in the last five seasons with Mount Saint Vincent dropping to 0-1 through the season’s first contest.

Vassar took a 2-0 lead into the intermission following goals from Bouggess and Riley McGrath in the first half.

Bougess opened the scoring in the 19th minute when she finished off a passing play from Claire Karlin (Arlington, VA) and Livy Soble for what proved to be the game winning goal.
Vassar grew its lead to 2-0 late in the opening frame when McGrath collected a turnover and potted her first of the season at the 42:10 mark of the contest.

Vassar dominated the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Mount Saint Vincent 16-0 while taking the only two corner kicks of the period.

Coming out of the break, the Brewers ballooned their lead to three goals in the 55th minute when Rebecca Rodriguez entered the scoring column. She buried a pass from Bouggess at 54:43 to open the second half scoring.

The Brewers closed out the scoring in the game when Justine Tapert unleashed a shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net at 68:27.

Vassar finished the second frame with a 10-4 advantage in shots and a huge 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
