KINGSTON – Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack invited the public for a celebration of Ulster County’s 340th birthday which was held on Wednesday, November 1 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the lobby of the Ulster County Office Building at 244 Fair Street in Kingston.
Founded on November 1, 1683, Ulster County was one of the original twelve counties in the province of New York. Staff from the Ulster County Clerk’s Archives division had special artifacts on display and were available to discuss local history questions and talk about resources and research tools the County Clerk’s Office offers those looking to learn more about our rich history. The Clerk invited community members to join them for a special birthday cake, which was served at noon during the celebration.
In recognition of this important decennial, Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is additionally pleased to announce that the earliest Dutch-language records in the County’s care are newly digitized and will be going live online through the Ulster County Archives’ website this month. Each digitized page will be displayed alongside an English-language transcription to increase accessibility for scholars, genealogists, and the curious public. All interested in learning more about accessing and using this resource are encouraged to join the celebration in November or email the Archives anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org.
County Clerk Nina Postupack expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I invite everyone to join us in celebrating 340 years of history! From our founding in 1683 to the digitization of our earliest Dutch-language records, we’re opening a new chapter in accessibility, inviting scholars, genealogists, and the curious public to explore our past in an unprecedented way. This celebration is not just a look back but a step forward, bringing our history out to the community and providing access to important primary sources.”
The Ulster County Office Building is located at 244 Fair Street, Kingston, NY 12401.
