NEWBURGH – In a commanding performance, the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s basketball team secured a resounding victory against the Purchase Panthers in their first home game of the season. The final score of 91-33 showcased the dominance of the Knights throughout the matchup, delighting the home crowd of 313 enthusiastic fans at the Elaine & William Kaplan Recreation Center.
From the opening tip-off, Mount Saint Mary asserted their control, ending the first quarter with a 24-10 lead. The Knights continued to build on their advantage, outscoring Purchase in each subsequent period and ultimately claiming a 58-point victory.
Coach Marion Dietz expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “Great team win. Everyone contributed in a positive way, and we stayed focused on the game plan for most of the game. A great way to open up conference play and win our first game on our home floor.”
The Knights’ offensive strength was on full display, with a balanced scoring effort from the entire roster. Charlotte Twohig led the team with 13 points, showcasing her accuracy from beyond the arc and composure at the free-throw line. Ana Ndoci was a force in the paint, contributing 19 points and securing six rebounds.
Mount Saint Mary’s defensive efforts were equally impressive, limiting Purchase to a mere 33 points. The Knights forced turnovers, blocked shots, and controlled the boards throughout the game.
The Knights showcased not only their offensive firepower but also their commitment to a well-rounded team effort. The victory marks a strong start to conference play, setting a positive tone for the remainder of the season. Mount Saint Mary College looks to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign in the Skyline Conference. The next game for the Mount will be on Dec 6th at 7pm, they will be hosting the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
