NEWBURGH – In a hard-fought battle at the Elaine & William Kaplan Recreation Center, the Mount Saint Mary College Men’s basketball team faced a formidable challenge from the Marywood University Pacers. Despite a commendable effort in front of a home crowd of 380, the Knights ultimately fell short, with Marywood securing the win with a final score of 89-85.

Coach Ryan Kadlubowski reflected on the intense contest, stating, “It was a hard-fought battle tonight, very proud of our effort in front of a good home crowd. Defensively we just made a few too many errors that led to wide open looks, and Marywood knocked them down to secure the win.”

The first half set the tone for a closely contested matchup, with Mount Saint Mary holding a slim one-point lead at 37-36. However, Marywood responded with a strong second half, outscoring the Knights 53-48 to secure the victory.

The Knights displayed a balanced offensive effort, with Jayden Figueroa leading the charge with a stellar performance. Despite the team’s offensive efficiency, defensive lapses allowed Marywood to capitalize on open opportunities, ultimately proving decisive in the closely contested matchup.

Mount Saint Mary College showed resilience throughout the game, with both teams exchanging leads seven times and the score tied five times. The Knights will undoubtedly use this hard-fought battle as a learning experience as they continue their campaign in the Skyline Conference.
