The Bard College men’s basketball team defeated Skidmore in a physical game on Saturday afternoon, 75-61, at the Williamson Sports Center.
Bard (12-9, 7-7) won a crucial Liberty League match which keeps them in playoff contention. Senior Lazaros Panagiotounis scored a career-high 29 points, one point more than the record he set the night before against Vassar. Panagiotounis tied his career-best of seven made three-pointers which puts him tied for third all time with Alijah Rue and Justin White in three-pointers made by a Bard Raptor. He also added nine rebounds and dished out three assists.
Fellow senior Elliot Harris scored 16 points as he shot 5-of-9 from the floor and added six rebounds and two assists. Junior Sean Wilcox also had double-digit points with 13 and grabbed seven boards. Senior Cory Dennis grabbed a career-high six rebounds and was 3-of-4 from the line. Azriel Almodovar and Rowan Heinze each dished out a team-high five assists.
Bard held the lead in a majority of the first half, as the Raptors shot 40 percent from the floor and outrebounded Skidmore 23-15. Early in the second half the Thoroughbreds tied the game at 39-39, but the Raptors were able to keep them at bay as Panagiotounis scored 24 of his 29 points in the second half. Panagiotounis scored 24 of Bard’s 39 second-half points.
The Raptors will be back at home this weekend for their last two home games of the season. Bard will face RPI on Friday at 7:30 p.m. as they host their Inclusive Excellence Night game as part of Bard Athletics Black History Month celebration.
