Bard Basketball Defeats Hobart on Senior Day

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON – The Bard men’s basketball team took down the number one team in the league, Hobart, to stay in playoff contention in a thrilling game on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Stevenson Athletic Center.

Bard (13-10, 8-8 Liberty League) had three players in double-digit points in the 76-59 win. Senior Elliot Harris led the team with 19 points, followed by Lazaros Panagiotounis with 16 points and Azriel Almodovar with 11 points. Harris was 5-of-5 from three-point range and added three assists, while Almodovar had a team-high five assists and three steals.

Senior Rowan Heinze and Panagiotounis each had a team-high seven boards. Heinze added nine points and a steal. Graduate Kevin Le and senior Mike Parme both started the game, and each scored a point, with Parme scoring the first three of the game and Le adding four points. Fellow senior Heston Tucker had five points and five rebounds in addition to two assists. Junior Sean Wilcox stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, two rebounds, three assists, three blocks and an assist. Senior Cory Dennis added two points and a rebound.
The Raptors started off hot in the first half, shooting 57.69 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range. Bard continued that momentum into the second half and shot 6-of-9 from three-point range. The Raptors holding Hobart to 59 points is the third time they have been held to under 60 points and below their scoring average of 71.2.

Bard is tied for fourth place with Union and RIT, with the top six making the postseason.

The Raptors have two big games on the road to conclude their regular season games, starting with Ithaca on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Before the game started, Bard celebrated eight seniors: Azriel Almodovar, Cory Dennis, Elliot Harris, Rowan Heinze, Kevin Le, Lazaros Panagiotounis, Mike Parme, and Heston Tucker.
