HAMPTON, VA – The Marist softball team earned its seventh straight win on Saturday as the Red Foxes defeated Central Connecticut State by a score of 13-3 in six innings by the mercy rule.
The game marked the first time that sophomore catcher Isabella Manory played against her twin sister Adriana, a sophomore at Central Connecticut State.
Peyton Pusey led off the bottom of the first with a double, stole third, and scored on a two-out double by Haley Ahr, who then came home on an Alyssa Grupp single.
The Red Foxes added three runs in the second, again all with two outs. Two runs scored on errors, and Maddie Pleasants had an RBI single.
Manory led off the third with a walk, and scored on a leadoff single by Sophia Recrosio. Miah McDonald followed with a two-run double, which brought home Ronni Howard and Recrosio.
After Central plated two runs in the top of the fourth, Ahr led off the bottom of the inning with a home run.
Central cut its deficit to 9-3 in the top of the fifth, but Ahr was hit by a pitch with the bases load in the bottom half to force home Recrosio.
McDonald’s three-run homer gave Marist the win by the mercy rule.
Marist is now 9-4 on the season.
