Vassar Tennis Winning Streak Stopped

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – The #35 Vassar College Men’s Tennis saw its four-match winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon following an 8-1 loss to #11 Sewanee. First Year Eugene Lee earned the Brewers’ win against the Tigers at second singles.

Sunday’s decision moves both Vassar and Sewanee to 5-2 overall on the season.

Doubles
The top doubles pair for the Brewers, Nolan Kubiak and Ethan Mantell, battled hard in a tough 8-6 loss.

Both the second and third doubles matches ended in scores of 8-4.

Singles
Lee continued a strong rookie season on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the second slot.

The victory improves Lee to 6-1 on the season in singles play and marks a fifth straight singles victory.

Playing at third singles, Benjamin Almquist suffered a hard fought 3-6, 6-7 (4-7) decision.
Kubiak also battled hard for the Brewers at the fourth position, falling in a tight 2-6, 7-5, 2-6 decision.

First Year Henry Zhang suffered a marathon 6-3, 5-7, 0-1 (6-10) defeat at the fifth position for the Brewers.

Vassar will be back in action on March 20 when it opens the home spring schedule with a non-conference match against Bates.
