WHITE PLAINS – Mount Vernon High School boys’ basketball team beat New Rochelle in the Section 1 Class AAA basketball championship on Sunday, March 3, 2024, during an intense and dynamic game at the Westchester County Center. Mount Vernon came back to win the championship with a 41-37 win. Junior Tavien Tyler scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, leading the comeback against New Rochelle.
“Way to go Knights!!! Don’t count the mighty Knights out. It’s not over until the fat lady sings. They came back from being behind nine points to win the game!” said Acting Superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith.
“Coach [Bob] Cimmino and his coaching staff did an amazing job. They motivated their players with their passion, commitment and know-how. Kudos also go to Dr. Pauline Pearce, administrators and staff for their support and presence. The Knights are true champions as they persevered. I am so very proud of the MVHS Knight’s sportsmanship and determination; you make us Mount Vernon Strong.”
