Hawks Collect Doubleheader Sweep of Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS — The State University of New York at New Paltz went on the road and collected a doubleheader win over Skidmore Friday earning 7-0 and 8-1 victories.

Lindsay Roman pitched a complete game shutout to improve to 4-3 overall in game one, allowing just six hits with a season-high eight strikeouts.

The Hawks took the lead in the second inning when Rhionna Bianchini scored on an error after getting on with a lead-off single. Jaycee Filancia then gave SUNY New Paltz a 2-0 lead after hitting an RBI single to score Lauren Serrao from third after she got on with a one-out base hit two batters prior.

Sophia D’Arcangelis scored Kelsey O’Brien in the third before Bianchini stole home to push the advantage to 4-0. The Hawks then opened up the game in the fourth with three more runs, taking advantage of an error by the Thoroughbreds in the second batter of the inning.

Filancia led the team offensively, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. D’Arcangelis followed going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases, while O’Brien finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Bianchini went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, including two stolen bases.

Sydney Waldon and Alyssa Zangrilli combined for a two-hitter in game two, while SUNY New Paltz totaled 13 hits on the offensive side en route to its third-straight win.

Waldon earned the win after pitching the first four innings, giving up a hit and no earned runs with two strikeouts. Zangrilli closed out the last three innings, conceding just one hit, no runs with one strikeout.

With the game tied at 1-1 entering the second, the Hawks answered with two more in the top half. D’Arcangelis got the inning started on a one-out single through the left side before putting herself in scoring position with a stolen base a batter later. Lauren Serrao added a base hit and then stole second, setting the plate for Filancia who came through with a two-out, two-RBI double to left to score both D’Arcangelis and Serrao to push the lead to 3-1.

SUNY New Paltz then scored two in the fourth and two more in the seventh to close out the offensive night. Nicole Greco capped the scoring with a two RBI single to plate Maddie Anderson and Lauren Parete to help earn the 8-1 win.

Filancia again led the way, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Kelly Marmorowski hit 2-for-2 with an RBI. O’Brien added a hit, run scored, an RBI and a stolen base.
