ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON — The Bard College baseball team fell to New Paltz in Saturday’s doubleheader at Honey Field.
First-year Xavier Webb was the lone Raptor with multiple hits in each game, going 2-for-3 in Game 1 and 2-for-4 in Game 2. Webb also had an RBI double in Game 2. Junior Jimmy Famularo had one hit in each game and first-year Emmett O’Brien hit a 2 RBI double in Game 2.
In Game 1, New Paltz brought home two runs in the first inning and kept the Raptors from scoring a run even though Bard had a 5-to-4 advantage in hits. In game 2, the Hawks took control of the game early, tallying 22 hits and taking a 21-4 victory in eight innings.
Senior Aidan Risse threw a complete game in Game 1 and had five strikeouts. The Raptors had seven pitchers, all first-years, in Game 2 with Nikhil Newman getting the start on the mound. Newman threw 3.0 innings and had one strikeout. Sachin Wijay threw 1.2 innings and had two strikeouts. Cal Anna threw his first collegiate inning and notched a strikeout as well. Charlie Lehr threw an inning and had two strikeouts, while Graham Benway threw 0.2 innings with one strikeout.
Bard will have a single midweek game on Wednesday when they host Saint Elizabeth in a non-conference matchup. The Raptors invite and encourage Little League teams from the area to come out and cheer on the Raptors for Youth Day, starting at 4 p.m.
Before today’s games, Bard celebrated First Responders in the area, including Chief Lane of the Red Hook Fire Department and Lucy Galyean of Bard EMS, who each threw out a first pitch. Several members of the Bard baseball team volunteer with either the Red Hook Fire Department or Bard EMS and would like to extend a sincere thank you for all they do in our community.
