Marist Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday. The Mountaineers won the first game in eightinnings, 3-2, but the Red Foxes responded for a 6-3 victory in game two.

Game One
Mount St. Mary’s opened the scoring in the top of the second on a fielding error to lead 1-0.

The Mountaineers added another run in the top of the third on Elizabeth King’s RBI single to extend the score to 2-0.

The Red Foxes tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on Peyton Pusey’s two-run homer to right center, which also brought Ronni Howard home.

Mount St. Mary’s reclaimed the lead on a solo home run from King in the top of the eighth to push the score to 3-2.

Kiley Myers pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts. Just one of the runs she allowed was earned.

Haley Ahr, Pusey, and Howard each finished with two hits.

Howard made it on base in all three of her plate appearances with two singles and hit by pitch.

Game Two
Marist opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Maddie Pleasants bringing Pusey home to lead 1-0.

Miah McDonald hit a two-run homer, sending Sophia Recrosio home to extend the Red Foxes’ lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third.

Mount St. Mary’s scored two runs in the top of the fifth, which first included a solo home run from Kassidy Johnson. The second run was unearned.

Mountaineers evened the score at 3-3 with a solo home run from Lia Festa in the top of the sixth.

Marist responded in the bottom of the sixth with another home run from McDonald, bringing Pusey and Howard home to make the score 6-3.

Anna Sidlowski went the distance and improved to 11-2 on the season.

McDonald reached 10 home runs on the season, and she reached the 100 RBI milestone for her career.
