PURCHASE – The Mount Saint Mary College Knights baseball team (5-14, SKY 2-4) dropped a doubleheader to Purchase College (12-9, SKY 4-0) on the road. The Knights fell by a score of 19-7 in the first game and 7-4 in the second game.

Game 1: Purchase St. 19, Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) 7
The Knights struggled to get going offensively in the first game, while Purchase jumped out to an early lead. Purchase plated two runs in the first inning and added another in the third before Mount Saint Mary was able to get on the board in the fourth. Alex Nalewajk hit a sac fly to bring home teammate Luke Barone. Unfortunately Purchase would tack on 16 runs in the fourth, fith and sixth inning to take control of the game. The Knights would rally five runs in the bottom half of the game, but it would not be enough as Purchase went on to win 19-7.

Game 2: Purchase St. 7, Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) 4
The second game was a closer contest, but Purchase again came out on top. The Knight went down 1-0 early but battled back in the second inning to tie the game. In the fourth, the Knights scored again taking the lead 2-1. Unfortunately, it all went wrong in the bottom of the fifth as the Panthers put up run in the bottom half of the inning. Ryan Lutinski and Luke Barone had a bit of a home run derby during the game, Lutinski hitting two and Barone with one. Combining for 4 RBI’s on 3 big swings.

Coach Purcell’s said of the days events, “We played much better in game 2 today. We are still being hurt by giving up big innings. It is a matter of time until our lineup breaks out and we start to put some things together. We need to protect our yard tomorrow and snap out of this.”
