Wagstaff Files 3x The Required Signatures to Run

WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County District Attorney Candidate William O. Wagstaff III has filed over 6,000 signatures to seek the Democratic nomination, more than three times the required number to appear on the ballot for the June Primary Election. Wagstaff also submitted in excess of the required amount of signatures to run on the New York Working Families Party Line, who endorsed Wagstaff in February.

The impressive submission follows more endorsements for Wagstaff’s candidacy by Mayor Niki Armacost of Hastings-on-Hudson, Mayor Chance Mullen of Pelham, and national organizations including Run for Something and Moms Demand Action, receiving the Gun Sense Candidate distinction.

William Wagstaff, a renowned civil rights attorney who has handled some of New York’s most prominent civil rights cases in recent history, said he is “immensely grateful for the overwhelming support, clearly demonstrated by earning over 6,000 signatures as a first-time candidate. I’m proud of my campaign team and volunteers across the county for working diligently for us to hit this goal.

For the past month, I’ve gone door-to-door to every corner of the county, connecting with voters who support the need to change the status quo and elect a District Attorney who will use the office as a vehicle for positive transformation.”

The strong showing is accompanied by additions to Wagstaff’s roster of 30-plus endorsements from elected officials – from Town Board Members to Mayors to NYS Senators – and prominent organizations.

“I am delighted to endorse William Wagstaff for District Attorney. He has dedicated his career to championing civil rights and social justice. His insights about the police are thoughtful, balanced and astute.” said Hastings-on-Hudson Mayor Nicole “Niki” Armacost. “I believe that he will do his utmost to hold criminals accountable, deter crime, protect the public from harm, and that he will devote himself to maintaining a fair and just society for all Westchester residents.”

Further, Pelham Mayor Chance Mullen said, “I am proud to endorse William Wagstaff for District Attorney. I’m impressed by his wealth of experience, his dedication to civil rights, and his commitment to protect victims of domestic violence, gun violence and hate crimes. I believe William’s leadership will serve voters well, and I look forward to voting for him in June.”

Wagstaff was named a Gun Sense Candidate for demonstrating he “will support stronger gun laws and advocate for safer communities,” said the national organization Moms Demand Action—composed of over ten million supporters for candidates who will “govern with gun safety in mind.”

“Moms Demand Action has been on the front lines advocating for common-sense gun safety measures nationwide–and I’m honored to receive their support for our shared commitment,” said Wagstaff. “Recent waves of tragic fatal shootings and a proliferation of ghost guns endanger us and require immediate action. As your next District Attorney, I’ll use a data-driven approach to address the pressing threat of gun violence and protect all our communities proactively and tactfully.”

Wagstaff also expressed gratitude for being endorsed by Run for Something—a progressive organization that has elected over 800 first-time candidates running for office.

“In his pursuit to become the first black District Attorney in Westchester County, William aims to revolutionize the criminal justice system. His vision includes initiatives to promote safety, fairness, and equity for all residents, irrespective of socio-economic status, race, or other factors,” Run for Something stated.

“It’s crystal clear that the status quo is failing to meet the moment for Westchester. I’m ready to meet the call-to-action of immense supporters from diverse communities who believe we can change our justice system to make our country fairer, safer and stronger,” Wagstaff added.

“My experience is unlike any candidate in history, and I’m ready to deliver real results to keep all our communities safe, drive accountability for bad actors while supporting our first responders and ensure just outcomes.”
