BEACON – Beacon LitFest at Howland Cultural Center and Live Writing, announce Five Poets, an event that will feature five award-winning New York poets who will read and discuss their work. This event on April 27, is a lead-in to the culminating Beacon Litfest @Howland Cultural Center slated for June 7th ,8th and 9th.
The April 27th reading, curated by poet Ruth Danon, brings distinguished writers Catherine Barnett, Jason Koo, Stephen Massamilla, Silvina Lopez Medin, and debut author and translator, Tiffany Troy, all of whom have won awards for their publications. The event will showcase the range and depth of the poetry enlivening the literary landscape of New York and the Hudson Valley. “Poetry is vitally alive in the United States. We’re excited about the enthusiasm expressed by the participating writers,” said Ruth Danon, curator and founder of Live Writing: A Project for the Reading, Writing, and Performance of Poetry.” “These poets want to read in Beacon. We expect that the audience will respond with equal enthusiasm when they encounter the diversity of poetries to be featured. They will have the opportunity to meet and talk to the poets and buy books for them to sign.”
Five Poets is a lead-up event to the Second Annual Beacon LitFest @Howland Cultural Center, produced by Hannah Brooks, Shane Bly Killoran, and Ruth Danon, and planned for the weekend of June 7th,8th, and 9th.
Five Poets is partially supported with grants from Poets and Writers. The reading starts at 7pm. The Howland Cultural Center is a nonprofit organization run by a fully volunteer board and staff. Housed in the historic former Howland Library in Beacon, it offers a wide array of cultural and community programs throughout the year.
