Red Foxes Split Doubleheader Against Manhattan

ANNANDALE – The Marist College baseball team faced Manhattan College in a doubleheader for the first two games of the weekend series. Due to poor field conditions, both games were played at Bard College. The Red Foxes fell 9-3 in the first game but rallied for a 9-6 win in the second. The Red Foxes are now 6-8 in MAAC play.

Game One
Manhattan scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second taking a 2-0 lead.
Marist’s Bayram Hot scored the Red Foxes’ first run of the day in the bottom of the second.

This run came off an RBI by Brady Steinert. Manhattan still led 2-1.

In the bottom of the third, Colin Mackle’s RBI brought Ethan Conrad home to tie the game 2-2.

Manhattan took the lead 3-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ethan Conrad scored his second run of the day, this one too coming from a Colin Mackle RBI. The inning would end with three apiece.

In the top of the sixth Jack Wren would take over the mound from Tyler Hartley. Despite this change, Manhattan would score 2 runs, one unearned, closing out the inning 5-3.

A Manhattan home run in the seventh increased their lead 6-3, and a hitless inning for the Red Foxes.

Two more Manhattan runs in the top of the eighth brought the game to 9-3 wrapping up the scoring for the remainder of the match.

Game Two
In the second match of the doubleheader, Manhattan came out strong scoring the first three runs in the top of the second, leading the game 3-0.

A two-run RBI off the bat of Bayram Hot cut the Jasper lead to one with a score of 3-2 in the bottom of the third.

Colin Mackle scored the tying run from an RBI single by Johnny Decker also in the bottom of the third, putting the game at three apiece.

In the top of the fourth inning, Brian Yetter would take over the mound for Caleb Kempler.

In the top of the fifth, Manhattan extended their lead to 6-3, before the Red Foxes rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the inning taking their first lead of the game 8-6.

A loaded bases walk brought home Lewis Rodriguez.

A double RBI by Johnny Decker brought home Colin Mackle and Justin Kapuscinski.

Another double RBI this time by Dylan Millman brought home Johnny Decker and Bayram Hot.

Three back-to-back outs cleared the side in the top of the sixth, before a sacrifice fly by Bayram Hot scored Lewis Rodriguez, extending Marist’s lead by three with a score of 9-6, the final runs of the game.
