POUGHKEEPSIE – The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Course program (AFJROTC) held its second awards and promotion ceremony for the 2023-24 school year on April 12 in the high school auditorium.
Program leadership presented 75 cadets with ribbons and promoted 24 cadets from Cadet Airman First Class to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. Additionally, 15 cadets were inducted into the Kitty Hawk Air Society (KHAS) which is an honor society within the AFJROTC program.
The requirements for awards, promotions and KHAS membership encompass academics, community service and behavior.
Poughkeepsie High School Principal Dr. Phee Simpson, several of the school’s assistant principals, district Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools Dr. Charles Gallo, and many members of the students’ families were in attendance.
After the ceremony, the group transitioned to the large cafeteria for pizza and snacks.
