Marist Falls in Doubleheader Against Fairfield

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist baseball team fell in their final home series of the season, falling in both games of their doubleheader against conference opponent Fairfield on Saturday. The Red Foxes lost 7-4 in the first game and 11-10 in a ten-inning game two.

The Red Foxes moved to 15-31 overall and 8-13 in MAAC play.

Game One
Fairfield opened up scoring in the top-half of the second, recording two runs off a bases loaded RBI single.

It was a pitcher’s battle in the following four innings between Marist starting pitcher Caleb Kempler and Fairfield starting pitcher Colin McVeigh.

Kempler exited the game in the top-half of the seventh after allowing just two runs on five hits.

Fairfield added three additional runs in the top-half of the seventh.

The Red Foxes found their rhythm in the bottom-half of the seventh. Lewis Rodriguez and Brady Steinert opened the inning with back-to-back walks, allowing Ethan Conrad to hit an electric two-run triple.

Conrad scored on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Justin Kapuscinski, putting Marist back within two runs.

 

The Stags added two runs in the top-half of the eighth.

The Red Foxes added a fourth run in the bottom-half of the ninth. Conrad doubled to left field, scoring on a sacrifice play by Johny Decker.

Despite their late inning efforts, the Red Foxes fell in the first game 7-4.

Game Two
Fairfield opened up scoring in the top-half of the first, recording one run on two hits.

The Red Foxes responded immediately in the bottom-half of the first, scoring three runs off three hits. Lewis Rodriguez singled and scored a run on a two-run single off the bat of Bayram Hot.

Fairfield scored a second run in the top-half of the fourth inning. The Stags then added four runs in the top of the fifth.

On two outs in the bottom-half of the fifth, Justin Kapuscinski and Hot hit momentum shifting back-to-back home runs, scoring Lewis Rodriguez and tying the game 6-6.

The Red Foxes then took back the lead in the bottom-half of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on three hits. The run production arrived from the bottom of the order, Dylan Millman recording an RBI double and scoring a run off a Colin Mackle RBI single.

Fairfield took the lead 9-8 in the top-half of the eighth inning off a Luke Nomura three-run home run.

The Red Foxes once again took the lead 10-9 in the bottom of the eighth. After intentionally walking Ethan Conrad to load the bases, Lewis Rodriguez reached second on a Faifield fielding error, allowing Brady Steinert and Dylan Millman to score.

The Stags tied the game 10-10 in the top-half of the ninth inning.

Fairfield took the lead 11-10 in the top-half of the tenth off a Matt Bucciero solo home run.

The Red Foxes fell 11-10 in ten innings.

The Red Foxes play in their final MAAC series of the season on Friday at Siena. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 3 p.m.
