POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist softball team had its season come to an end on Friday. The top-seeded Red Foxes fell to second-seeded Niagara, 10-4, on the third day of the MAAC Championship.
The Purple Eagles seized the lead in the top of the third inning, capitalizing on four hits, highlighted by a three-run home run.
A two-run home run in the top of the fifth increased Niagara’s lead to 5-0.
Niagara extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning, fueled by four hits, including yet another three-run home run to add five more to their tally.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Peyton Pusey kick started the action with a single. Miah McDonald followed with a double, advancing Pusey to third base. A wild pitch ensued, allowing the Red Foxes’ first run to cross home plate.
Continuing the momentum, Haley Ahr smashed a two-run home run over the center field fence to make it 10-3.
McDonald hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, making it 10-4.
Marist concludes the season with a 36-19 record.
The Red Foxes were the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season champions.
