Four Brewers Named Academic All-District

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College Women’s Tennis team had four student-athletes recognized for their work both on and off the court last Tuesday afternoon with Academic All-District citations from the College Sports Communicators.

Junior Macey Dowd, a Sociology major, played at the top doubles position and the second singles flight in 2023-24 for the Brewers. Dowd posted a 14-4 singles record as a junior and teamed with Erin McCusker at the top doubles flight for 11 more victories for Vassar.

Dowd won six of the final seven matches that finished of the season for the Brewers and closed the year part of the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week twice.

Elyse Duley, a Physics major, also had a standout year for Vassar in both singles and doubles competition. Playing primarily at the sixth singles position, Duley won her final 10 decisions of the season and closed the year 11-4 for Vassar. In doubles play, teamed with Ananya Krishnan, the duo won their final 13 matches playing at the third slot and closed the year with a 16-2 record for the Brewers. Duley and Krishnan were named the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week on Aprill 22.

Krishnan, a sophomore Neuroscience major at Vassar, added 16 singles wins to the doubles total teamed with Duley. Krishnan closed the year 16-2 in singles play, winning six times at the fifth slot and adding a perfect 9-0 record at the fourth position for the Brewers.

Krishnan closed the year on a 13-match winning streak, including fourth singles wins against Union and Skidmore in the Liberty League Championship Tournament. Krishnan, along with Duley, were named the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week on April 22.

Iris Li, an Earth Science major, also turned in a stellar year after posting a 12-4 singles record playing at the third position to go along with a 13-5 mark at second doubles teamed with First Year Maddie Kirby. Li opened the year with 10 victories in the first 11 decisions in singles play and rounded out the season tied for fourth on the team in singles triumphs. In doubles play, Li and Kirby won six straight decisions from March 8 through March 30 and the duo was tabbed the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week on March 4 and 25.

Vassar closed out the year with a 16-4 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in Liberty League Play, advancing to the conference title match for the seventh straight season.
