Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) blasted the closing of the Newburgh Social Security office. The Social Security Administration announced it is moving the office to the Town of Wallkill.
“This unnecessary closing of the Newburgh Social Security office places a hardship on many Newburgh residents, whom I represent,” Jacobson said. “There is no affordable transportation to the new location in Wallkill, which is 30 miles away.”
“At a minimum, there should be weekly office hours in Newburgh. This is the least we can do for those seniors who worked their whole lives to receive their Social Security and Medicare benefits and to live with dignity in retirement,” Jacobson concluded.
Jacobson said he will work with the Social Security Administration to find a solution to this situation.
