ROCHESTER – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s soccer team was defeated in their match against RIT on Saturday afternoon, losing by a score of 6-1.
Mount Saint Mary was coming off a loss the day prior to Nazareth University and were hungry to get a victory over another strong opponent. Things did not start off as planned for the Knights, as RIT buried a goal on the first shot attempt less than three minutes into the game. The Tigers continued to control the pace offensively as the Knights attempted to form a counter. A great team save for the Knights was spoiled off a rebound that ended up in the back of their own goal as RIT took an early 2-0 lead. Just over five minutes later, the Tigers were able to capitalize again to extend their lead to 3-0. The Knights were down, but not out as they attempted to break through the Tiger’s defense. Kaitlin Hansen was able to find the crack, notching the first goal of the season for Mount Saint Mary thanks to Grace Morra’s first assist in a Knight uniform. They were able to hold off the RIT attack for the rest of the half, as freshman goalie Caitlin Kroohs made a few key saves to give the team some confidence.
The Tigers brought the heat to open the second half of play, bringing their lead back to three goals early on. The Knights lacked chances offensively as they were only able to record one shot for the remainder of the game and none on goal. Nothing seemed to be going the Mount’s way as RIT tallied on a couple more goals before the ending buzzer making the final score 6-1 RIT.
