Newburgh Teen Team Wins Battle of the Books

MIDDLETOWN – On August 25th, Newburgh Free Library’s teen team took First Place at this year’s Battle of the Books championship.

Battle of the Books is a college bowl-type program for teens entering 6th through the 12th grade. Participants in the program read eight preselected titles and then participate in trivia battles based on the books at a Regional Battle held at SUNY Orange Middletown. The goal of the program is to promote a love of reading in teens, to expose them to titles and authors that they might not encounter otherwise, to encourage them to think of their local public library as a resource for entertainment and to inspire teamwork and good sportsmanship in an atmosphere of friendly competition.

This year, there were 14 libraries represented at the RCLS Battle of the Books championship on August 25th. Newburgh’s team this year included Jack, Carter, Jayde, Bradley, Marta, Sophia, Octave and Nicole, representing all three NFA campuses and South Middle School. They made it through 4 rounds, going undefeated and securing 1st place this year! All of their hard work this summer paid off!
