POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist football team fell in its season opener to Georgetown by a score of 31-10 at Tenney Stadium on Saturday.
The Red Foxes held a 10-7 halftime lead, but the Hoyas scored 24 unanswered points in the second half. Marist played before 2,677 fans at Tenney Stadium.
Marist scored on its opening drive on a two-yard touchdown run by Carter James, which capped a 13-play, 78-yard drive in 5:07.
Georgetown tied the score early in the second quarter, but Marist took the lead back on a 25-yard field goal by Connor Mendini with 1:50 left in the second quarter.
Georgetown tied the score on its opening drive of the third quarter, and then took the lead for good Naieem Kearney’s touchdown at the 2:35 mark. The Hoyas then added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
