NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s volleyball team beat the City College of New York 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

Mount Saint Mary was looking to build off their dominant win over Saint Elizabeth, and boy did they do just that. They came out rolling, as Brooke Lavelle had two kills in their opening run to go up 5-1. The Beavers pushed back eventually making it a tie game at 10-10. The Knights capitalized off some CCNY mistakes to take the lead back 18-14. The Beavers kept hanging around, scoring four unanswered to make the first set 18-18. The Mount was done playing around as they went on a 7-2 run to close out the set 25-20, with an Ava DiScala kill as the cherry on top.
The Knights rallied at the start of the second set as Isabella Israel provided a couple of aces and Mackenzie Warmoth eviscerated a kill to give them a 7-3 lead. The Mount kept their distance on the scoresheet, with Julianna Simone, Jonaiya Williams, and Erin Lema asserting their dominance as the Knights went up 16-8. Freshman Emily Hadden recorded her first collegiate kill and point to put Mount Saint Mary up 23-16. Things went south from here quickly, as CCNY went on a 6-0 run to bring them to within a point. The Knights shook it off and won the second set 25-22.
The Mount was looking to win its 6th straight set, but they were going to have to overcome an early deficit if they were going to do it. Down 9-5, Jonaiya Williams served three straight aces to tie the match and recorded a kill moments later to make the score 11-9 MSMC.
Each squad went back and forth looking to take the edge, but neither team was willing to give an inch. The set was tied 21-21 down the final stretch, as the Knights would come up in the clutch like they had all afternoon. An Erin Lema ace followed by an Ava DiScala kill iced the set as Mount Saint Mary won the match 3-0.
