NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s soccer team continues their winning ways as they blow past Old Westbury with a score of 6-1.

The Knights came out hot with a beautiful passing display right from the first whistle. Multiple players put shots on goal in the opening minutes, as Old Westbury got caught flat on their feet by the Mounts’ offense. Sophomore Grace Morra got the scoring starting for the Knights. Morra had multiple opportunities from the jump but was finally able to capitalize off a pass from Kaitlin Hansen after a cross from Victoria Maffettone. Mount Saint Mary’s back line continues to be impenetrable as the Panthers had limited scoring chances in the first half. Morra added another one to the scoreboard off a beautiful pass from Faith Welsh. Old Westbury wasn’t able to get much going but was able to squeak past a goal in the 40th minute of the match. Welsh added the third goal of the half for the Knights off a header assisted by Angelica Sanchez and Isabella Williams, making it 3-1 at halftime.
Mount Saint Mary continued their strong performance in the second half, applying tons of pressure on Old Westbury. Morra got the Knight’s scoring going in the second half, tallying her third goal of the match and the first hat trick of her career. The Mount’s offense was rolling, Welsh sent a pass down the field to Maffettone who added another goal to make it 5-1. Graduate goalkeeper Christina Kakavas had a quiet day, seeing three shots throughout the entire match and making two saves. Mount Saint Mary put 9 more shots on goal in the second half. Delisianna Naccarato rounded out the scoring for the Knights adding her first goal of the season to the Mount’s already dominant afternoon.
The Knights look to keep this momentum going as they prepare to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy next Saturday.
