Marist Red Foxes Come Up Short in Home Game

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist football team was defeated by St. Thomas, 39-32, in a Pioneer Football League game on Saturday at Tenney Stadium.

Sonny Mannino threw five touchdown passes for the Red Foxes, which tied the school record.

St. Thomas opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown pass from Tak Tateoka to Matthew Rink at the 2:33 mark of the first quarter to lead 7-0.

St. Thomas added to the lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown from Tateoka and Marc Coy rushed in for the two-point conversation to make the score 15-0 with 2:12 left in the first quarter.

Marist responded with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Mannino to Carter James at the 9:00 mark of the second quarter to cut the deficit to 15-6.

Mannino tossed another touchdown to James this time for four yards to make the score 15-12 with 4:56 left in the second quarter.

The Red Foxes lead for the first time in the contest with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Mannino to Jackson Conners-McCarthy with 56 seconds left in the half to make the score 18-15.

The Tommies tied the game at 18-18 with a 45-yard field goal from Ben Hoiland as the clock expired at the end of the first half.

St. Thomas opened the scoring in the second half with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Tateoka to Jacob Wildermuth at the 10:21 mark of the third quarter to lead 25-18.

The Tommies extended the lead with a two-yard rushing touchdown from Tateoka to make the score 32-18 with 14:53 left in the fourth quarter.

Marist answered with a three-yard touchdown pass from Mannino to Will Downes to cut the deficit to 32-24 at the 10:35 mark of the fourth quarter.

St. Thomas added a rushing touchdown by Gabriel Abel to put the Tommies up 15 with 2:19 to play.

Mannino’s fourth touchdown pass when to Jake Ciolino from 30 yards out with 19 seconds remaining.

Marist is now 0-6 overall and 0-3 in PFL play.

The Red Foxes head back to the road as they travel to San Diego for a PFL contest on Saturday, Oct. 19.
