FARMINGDALE – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s volleyball team was defeated in three sets by Farmingdale State College Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a 3-0 loss to Manhattanville, Mount Saint Mary looked to get back into the win column against Farmingdale. The first set was highly competitive, as both teams traded lead changes. Junior Jonaiya Williams had five of her nine kills on the day in set number one. The Knights would find themselves in a four-point hole late in the set, but Brooke Lavelle provided some reinforcement with two straight kills to make it 19-17 Rams. Down by as many as five, the Mount attempted a comeback late, coming up just short 25-22.
Mount Saint Mary jumped out to an early 3-0, but eight unanswered from Farmingdale made it 8-3. The Knights could only make a small dent in the Rams’ lead, as they came as close as three points. The Mount scored four straight to make the score 20-15, as they seemed to get something going. Farmingdale had other plans though as they closed out the second set on a 5-1 run 25-16.
The third set did not start off too hot for the Knights as they only scored one of the first ten points. By the time they heated up, the deficit was just too big to overcome. Julianna Simone and Isabella Israel created some offense for the Knights with an ace a piece to make the score 15-8 Rams. From here on out, both teams traded three or four-point offensive spurts as Farmingdale would end up winning the third and final set 25-15.
