Mount Women’s Swimming Wins For a Cure

NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary’s Women’s swimming hosted Brooklyn College Friday for their Breast Cancer Awareness meet, taking home the win with a final score of 103-71.

Following the meet, both teams took part in a special ceremony honoring those affected by breast cancer.

Raquel Ortiz, Victoria DeLuca, Kate Cerven and Sarah Zellner kicked off the night with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (2:54.55).

Grace MacHugh had the first individual win for the Knights in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 2:12.22. Later, she won the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.58) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.94).

Stefanie Sommer also picked up a pair of wins in the 50-yard freestyle (29.04) and 100-yard backstroke (1:13.16).

Freshman Kate Cerven grabbed her first individual career win in the 100-yard freestyle, coming in at 1:10.37.

Cayla Nicholas , DeLuca, Cerven and Sommer ended the night with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:42.76).

Women’s swimming will compete again on Saturday, November 2 on the road against William Paterson University at 1 PM.
