RICHMOND, Va – The Marist men’s basketball team earned a 79-72 road victory at defending Atlantic 10 regular-season champion Richmond on Saturday night.
Marist scored the game’s first six points on two three-pointers by Jackson Price in the first 1:36.
Caleb Mackrey added a three, and Jaden Daughtry’s free throw staked Marist to its largest lead at 10-2 just 3:02 in.
Richmond took its first lead at 12-11 on Mikkel Tyne’s three with 12:08 left in the first half.
Two free throws by Jonathan Beagle with 6:02 left in the first half gave Richmond its largest lead at 37-28. However, the Red Foxes countered with an 8-0 run fueled by threes from Mackrey and Price.
Richmond led at the half by a score of 44-41.
There were seven lead changes in the 12:06 of the second half. A layup by Jadin Collins-Roberts with 7:54 remaining gave Marist the lead for good, and started the Red Foxes on a 9-0 run as the Spiders were held scoreless for 5:03..
Mikkel Tyne’s two free throws closed Marist’s lead to two with 2:17 lead, but Josh Pascarelli’s three with 1:32 left gave the Red Foxes a five-point lead.
The Red Foxes sealed the win by going 8-for-8 from the line in the last 52 seconds. Elijah Lewis drained four free throws, Pascarelli had two, and Collins-Roberts had two
