Mount Loses First Game of the New Year

PURCHASE – Mount Saint Mary College men’s basketball lost their first Skyline Conference match of the new year.

Mount Saint Mary tipped off the New Year at Manhattanville University for a Skyline Conference clash. Ben Toussaint, who got his first start of the season, also got the first points of 2025 for the Knights early on. Brenden Graham and Justin Rivera were solid from the three-point line today, shooting a combined 5-8. Both squads went back and forth exchanging leads until the Valiants went on a run to take a 29-18 lead with 6:11 left in the first. The Knights were able to cut the Manhattanville lead to five at multiple points but trailed 37-30 entering the half.

The Mount got going with the first points of the second half thanks to a three from Brenden Graham. Neither team was able to score much early on in the second half as the Knights went on a five-minute scoreless drought but were still able to stay within two possessions.

A Connor Cyran layup brought the game back to a five-point Manhattanville lead, 42-37.

The Valiants went on a 9-3 run to secure a double-digit advantage, but the aggressiveness of Mount Saint Mary led them to the free-throw line. The Knights were able to stick around only trailing by a couple of possessions for a majority of the game. With less than five minutes remaining, Manhattanville started to pull away and never looked back. The Valiants would secure a victory over the Knights by the score of 72-55.
