LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Junior Morgan Lee scored a career-high 22 points to lead Marist women’s basketball past MAAC foe Rider on the road, 67-55, Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Gymnasium.
Catie Cunningham added a season-best 11 points to go along with Lee’s 22 points, while Jackie Piddock contributed 10 points of her own.
With the win, Marist improved to 9-8 on the season and 4-3 in the MAAC, while Rider dropped to 3-13 on the campaign and 1-6 in conference play.
First Quarter
The two sides were even through the first 6:15 of play, matching up at 10-10 at the media timeout with 3:45 left in the first quarter. The Red Foxes limited the Broncs to just two points the rest of the frame, as they carried a 13-12 advantage into the second.
Second Quarter
The Broncs opened the second with an 8-2 run to take a 20-15 lead into the media timeout with 4:23 left in the half. Out of the timeout, the Red Foxes responded with a 7-2 run, capped by a Lexie Tarul three-pointer to force a Rider timeout tied at 22-22.
Out of the timeout, the Red Foxes closed the half with a swift 8-2 swing to carry a 30-24 advantage into the break.
Third Quarter
After the Broncs cut the Marist lead to three, the Red Foxes responded with an 8-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Jackie Piddock and Morgan Lee to extend the advantage to 38-27 into the media break.
The Red Foxes built their lead to 42-31 before the Broncs closed the frame with a swift 6-2 run to trim the Marist advantage to 44-35 into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Rider opened the frame with three straight points to trim the Marist lead to single digits.
However, the Red Foxes countered with a 15-3 run, capped by a Morgan Lee three to extend the lead to 59-41.
The deficit proved to be too much for the Broncs, as the Red Foxes held on for the eventual 67-55 victory.
