Bard Drops League Game at Vassar

The Bard College men’s basketball team dropped an 89-77 decision at Vassar on Saturday afternoon in a Liberty League match.

Four of the five starters were in double-digit points, including Rowan Heinze with a career-high 28 points. Heinze was 8-of-12 from the line and added six rebounds, one block, and a steal. Sean Wilcox had his fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. His 20 points tie his career-high and it is the second time in his career that he has scored 20+ points. Wilcox added two assists and was 6-of-6 from the line.

Azriel Almodovar had a team-high four assists and added 15 points and six rebounds. Lazaros Panagiotounis added 11 points, four boards, two assists and a steal. Angelos Bratakos scored his first collegiate point with a three-pointer late in the first half and grabbed four rebounds.

Bard had a strong opening five minutes with a 7-3 lead. Tied up at 10-10 at the 13:34 mark, Vassar went on a 15-4 run to keep a double-digit lead heading into halftime. After halftime, Bard quickly went on an 8-2 run to get within five after four minutes of playing.

The Raptors got within two with a layup from Azriel Almodovar at 14:13. With nine minutes left in the game, Sean Wilcox hit a three-pointer to get within four points of Vassar, 66-62, but a 12-0 run by Vassar in the span of three minutes gave the Brewers the edge to take the win.

The Raptors will be back at home this weekend when they face St. Lawrence on Friday at 7:30 p.m. followed by Clarkson on Saturday at 4 p.m.
