Marist Crushes MAAC Foe Canisius, 64-48

POUGHKEEPSIE – Junior Morgan Lee scored a game-high 18 points to lead Marist women’s basketball past MAAC foe Canisius in dominant fashion, 64-48, Saturday afternoon inside McCann Arena.

Danielle Williamsen contributed 11 points to go along with Lee’s 18, while Lexie Tarul contributed 10 of her own to extend the Red Foxes’ win streak to four straight games.
With the win, Marist improved to 11-8 on the season and 6-3 in the MAAC, while Canisius dropped to 4-15 on the campaign and 3-6 in conference play.

First Quarter
After both sides played to a 6-6 tie with 3:30 left in the frame, the Red Foxes closed the quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 14-8 lead into the second quarter. Morgan Lee scored six points on the run and eight points total in the frame.

Second Quarter
Marist opened the second with a swift 4-0 run to extend the lead to 10 for the first time in the contest.

The Red Foxes held Canisius without a made field goal in the frame, as Marist carried a 26-16 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter
The Red Foxes opened the half with a 7-2 run, forcing a Canisius timeout with Marist leading by 15.

The Red Foxes’ run extended to as much as 17-6 to extend the lead to 43-22 before taking a 54-35 advantage into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter
Marist opened the fourth quarter by making its first four shot attempts to go on a 10-4 run, extending the lead to 64-39. The deficit proved to be too much for the Golden Griffins, as the Red Foxes cruised to a 64-48 victory.
