NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College men’s basketball wins first Skyline Conference game with a monstrous win over Merchant Marine.
Mount Saint Mary was still looking for their first Skyline win of the season coming into this one and they were going to need their top players to show up if they were going to get it done over Merchant Marine. The Knights trailed 4-0, but Ryan Graham and Connor Cyran responded to tie things up. Rob Geremino came out the gate red hot from three, knocking down three straight to put the Mount up 15-6. The Knights held onto the lead and their big-time shooting ability this game allowed them to keep their distance. Ben Toussaint and Ryan Graham made two more three-pointers as the Mount looked like they were not to be messed with today. They went 6-13 from beyond the arc in the first half and 8-18 in the second half, good for a 45.2% rate. Mount Saint Mary led 35-24 at the half and were 20 minutes away from getting their name back into the win column.
Merchant Marine opened up the scoring in the second half, but Ryan Graham was on one today and responded with an and-one and a three-pointer, extending their lead to 15. The Knights leading scorer on the season, Connor Cyran, got into the mix scoring all four of his made threes in the second half. The Mariners tried to get back into things, but there was no give from the Knights on either end of the court. AJ Piedra provided some good minutes off the bench for Coach Ryan Kadlubowski as he was the 6th Knight to knock down a three, extending their lead to 24. Mount Saint Mary continued to grind this one out and came out on top 82-61 with a combined 42 points from Ryan Graham and Connor Cyran.
