NEWBURGH – The Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board has confirmed the suspension of Superintendent Jackielyn Manning Campbell has been suspended pending an ongoing investigation and proceedings.
The officials said the decision was made following legal requirements and the commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
“The Board understands the concerns and emotions surrounding this decision,” said School Board President Christine Bello. “Our priority is to ensure fair and thorough processes while meeting our commitments to the proper governance of our school district,” she said. “We are bound by confidentiality rules, which limits the information we can share at this time. However, we want to assure our community that we are fully committed to sharing what information we can in a timely manner.”
Bello said the school board “acknowledges the deep impact this situation has had on the community and we remain committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all our students, staff, and community members. We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate this process and work towards resolutions that reflect our shared values and commitment to unity.”
Manning Campbell was suspended after the school board entered a lengthy executive session last Thursday and adopted a resolution afterwards voting to suspend an employee, only listing the individual’s district number as identification.
The Board of Education is set to meet Tuesday night, moving the location to Newburgh Free Academy in anticipation of a large turnout from various community members.
