Marist Baseball Wins First Series of the 2025 Season

GREENSBORO, NC – The Marist baseball team won its first series of the 2025 season, Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes defeated NC A&T in the rubber match, 12-11, in an extra innings affair.

In the top-half of the first inning, the Red Foxes took an early lead with a run on two hits.
Jason Claiborn delivered the first run of the game on an RBI single, which scored AJ Brotz.
NC A&T countered with four runs on three hits in the bottom-half of the first.

The Red Foxes trailed 4-1 after one inning of play.

In the top-half of the second inning, the Red Foxes cut into the Aggies lead with two runs. AJ Brotz cut the deficit to 4-2 with an RBI single that scored Noel Rivera. Zach Donahue continued the two-run inning with a second RBI single.

After a scoreless frame from Ryan VanDeWater, the Red Foxes trailed 4-3 after two innings of play.

The Red Foxes equaled the game in the top of the third inning. Brady Steinert recorded an RBI double, which made the game 4-4.

NC A&T regained the lead in the bottom-half of the third with two runs on a hit and an error. The Red Foxes trailed 6-4 after three innings of play.

The Red Foxes took their first lead of the game with a seven-run fourth inning. Nathan Lincoln started the scoring with a two-run single, which tied the game at six apiece. After Lincoln, Brady Steinert continued his dominant weekend with a two-run double and gave the Red Foxes a 8-6 lead. The Red Foxes scored two more runs on a throwing error from NC A&T, which extended their lead 10-6. To finish the scoring, AJ Brotz scored from second on a wild pitch and gave the Red Foxes an 11-6 lead.

NC A&T cut into the Red Foxes lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs. The Red Foxes maintained an 11-9 lead through six innings.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, NC A&T tied the game with two runs on a bases-loaded walk and a passed ball.

The game would reach extra innings, as the Red Foxes and Aggies were tied at 11 apiece through eight innings.

In the top-half of the 10th inning, Lewis Rodriguez hit the eventual game-winning RBI single, which scored Luke Monico.
