Marist Softball Shuts Out St. Bonaventure

ROCK HILL, SC – The Marist University softball team shut out St. Bonaventure by a score of 9-0 in five innings on Sunday in the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament, hosted by Winthrop.

The Red Foxes closed out tournament play this weekend with a 4-1 record.

Marist started the scoring with a three-run first. Haley Ahr’s double brought home Peyton Pusey. Ahr then came home on Sienna Kunze’s single. Kaitlyn Husic’s bases-loaded walk forced home Maddie Pleasants with the Red Foxes’ third run.

Pusey led off the second with a single, and Miah McDonald followed with a homer to extend Marist’s lead to 5-0.

Ahr belted a grand slam in the third, which gave Marist a 9-0 lead and closed out the scoring.

The top three hitters in the Marist lineup – Pusey, McDonald, and Ahr – combined to go 6-for-8 with seven runs scored and seven RBIs.

Pusey was not retired, as she went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, a stolen base, and a walk.

McDonald was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a homer.

Ahr was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, two runs scored, a grand slam, and a double.

Kunze was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Marist outhit St. Bonaventure, 11-4.

Maddie Pleasants struck out nine in four shutout innings to improve to 4-3. Pleasants allowed just three hits and one walk.

Isabella Milazzo closed the game with a scoreless top of the fifth, which included a strikeout.
