ABERDEEN, Md. – Mount Saint Mary College baseball split their doubleheader and took their first win of the season against Rosemont College.
Game 1
Mount Saint Mary traveled down to Aberdeen, Maryland to face Rosemont College.
Christian Parisa began the 1st with a hit, but nothing came of it for the Knights. Liam Horan pitched for the Knights and despite the loss, had a great outing going 6 innings with 0 earned runs, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Rosemont got out in front early in the 2nd on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead. Rosemont extended their lead in the 3rd with three more runs, with timely hits and capitalizing on the Knights’ errors.
Mount Saint Mary fought back in the 4th, as Tyler Crocitto’s RBI single brought the deficit down to 4-1. In the 6th, a Parisa single and an RBI groundout by Aidan Marshall made it 4-2, but the Knights were unable to score any further. Rosemont held on for the win to take game one 4-2 despite the late rally by Mount Saint Mary.
Game 2
Mount Saint Mary turned to Michael Di Tullio to start game 2 looking for their first win of the year. The Knights got off to a hot start with three runs in the first inning. Frank Signorelli singled to start the game and Luke Barone doubled to score him. An error by Rosemont’s catcher allowed Barone to score, and an error by Rosemont’s third baseman allowed Tyler Van De Bogart to score. Rosemont was quiet in their first few innings. In the fourth, the Knights extended their lead to 4-0 on a run-scoring ground out by Van De Bogart. Rosemont scored in the bottom of the fourth inning on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 4-1.
There was more scoring in the fifth frame. Mount Saint Mary extended the lead to 5-1 on a Christian Parisa RBI single, but Rosemont responded in their half. They scored two on a Nick Vitaleon single, and one more run was scored on a wild pitch to narrow the Knights lead to 5-4. The Knights answered in the sixth with three runs. Barone singled, then an RBI single by Crocitto plated him. A walk to Richard Lamping, and a sacrifice fly by Chris Calvario, gave them an 8-4 lead. Rosemont was not done yet though as they rallied again in the bottom of the inning. With two doubles and a single, they cut the lead to one, 8-7.
In the seventh, Mount Saint Mary tacked on two insurance runs. Tyler Crocitto and Chris Calvario both singled in a run to extend the Knights lead to 10-7. Rosemont threatened one last time in the bottom of the inning by getting two runners on but were unable to score against Dale Beneway who earned the save striking out two hitters in 1.1 innings. Mount Saint Mary held on to win 10-7 for their first win of the season.
