Vassar Women’s Tennis Sweeps Bates

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College Women’s Tennis team finished off a weekend sweep on Sunday with a 7-0 non-conference victory over visiting Bates. Junior Iris Li won her fifth straight singles decision and posted her team leading seventh victory of the spring.

Vassar moves above the .500 mark at 5-4 overall, while Bates falls to 4-8 on the season.

Doubles
Vassar posted victories at the first and third positions in the doubles competition to secure the point on Sunday.

Erin McCusker and Sofie Shen cruised to a 6-2 victory at the first position.

At the third spot, Elyse Duley and Maddie Kirby improved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-1 triumph.

The second pair of Li and Macey Dowd suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday following a 6-4 decision.

Singles
Vassar won each of the six singles contests on Sunday to secure the victory.

McCusker improved to 5-4 on the spring after outlasting Bates’ Iris Westmoreland by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.

Li moved to 7-1 in eight decisions on Sunday with a hard fought 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 victory at the second position.

First Year Sieun Lee also moved to 5-4 on the season after posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the third position.

Dowd eased to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fourth spot on Sunday, earning her third victory of the spring.

Shen was in action at the fifth slot on Sunday and produced a 6-4, 6-0 victory for the Brewers.

Duley moved to an unblemished 4-0 in singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at sixth singles.

Vassar travels to St. Lawrence on March 29.

Bates hosts #8 Middlebury on March 30.
