MIDDLETOWN – Dawn Ansbro, former Executive Director of the SUNY Orange Foundation, died last week after a battle with cancer. She was 63.
“Dawn was a cherished member of our community whose passion, vision, and unwavering dedication touched countless lives,” the SUNY Orange Foundation said in a statement. “She made a profound difference for our students, strengthened our mission, and left an enduring mark on our organization and everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her.”
Before arriving at SUNY Orange, Ansbro served as Executive of the Orange County Arts Council from 2011-18.
According to Todd Hulett, who now serves as Executive of the Arts Council, Ansbro’s “legacy’s is woven into the fabric of the Orange County Arts Council.” Hulett added that she was the driving force behind some of its most impactful programs.
“I am deeply saddened to lose a mentor and a friend,” Hulett said. “In the early days of my tenure, she was always there to offer guidance and champion my work in the most supportive way. Her warmth, grace, and thoughtfulness were a constant source of inspiration, and I know I am far from alone in feeling the great loss of a true community leader.”
The Arts Council will hold a Celebration of Life for her at its annual Art Affair on November 8th. Ansbro, of Goshen, is survived by her husband Jim and her daughters Kristen and Cori.
